Image Analysis
The questions I asked when analysing this photo were:
- How would you describe this photograph to a person who could not see it?
- How is space represented in this photograph (foreground, middle ground, background)?
- What is in or out of focus? How has the subject been framed/cropped?
- What questions would you ask the artist about this work, if she/he were here?
- What do you think it would be like to live in this photograph? What makes you think that?
- Why do you suppose the artist made this photograph? What makes you think that? What do you think is effective about this photograph? What doesn’t work so well?
Towards the centre of this image, there is a tilted sign. The sign looks as if it has been placed upside down as the flat side is located at the top rather of the bottom. Just above the sign, there is a cloud and it seems like it purposefully been placed there. The two objects together look like an ice cream cone.
Towards the left-hand side of this image, there is a caravan, which looks as if it has been neglected by its owners. Adjacent to the caravan, is a wooden house. This tells us that the image has possibly been taken in a Scandinavian country. Another reason why this image seems as if it has been taken in a warmer country is because there are dried patches of grass and there is a shadow of the sign. Just towards the side of the house, there is a tree, which is strutted like a Christmas tree.
Towards the right-hand side of this image, there is a never-ending road which comes to a vanishing point. This shows the image from another point of view. Also, there are cars, this makes it seem as if it is in the country side and in order to go anywhere it would be a long drive.

Space is used a lot in this picture, for example: the centre of the image has more space then towards the edges of the image. The space provided for the sides have been used with staples such as houses, cars, and trees.
This photograph is in focus because minor details inside this image look sharp.
A few questions I would like to ask the artist of this photograph is:
- What struck out to you the most when you were taking this photo?
- Why did you choose this location?
- Why did you take this image from this angle?
- What made you intrigued into taking this picture?
- Where was the image taken?
If I lived inside this photo, it would be a quiet neighbourhood. It would feel as if peace is always around you no matter where you are in this area. However, it would also feel lonely because there wouldn’t be anyone around except you and a few others. I also feel as though everyone in this neighbourhood keeps to themselves and they rarely socialise and see each other. This photograph feels quite daunting as the location is very empty and looks almost lifeless. As there is grass in only certain areas of the image, it adds to the aura of the photograph being quite eerie as it shows that people rarely look after the area.
I think that the reason this artist made this photograph was because it was unusual to them. They could possibly be living in a busy neighbourhood at the time this photo was taken, so the peace and quiet struck out to them. I also think when taking this photograph, they possibly though about how it would feel living here and how different it would be compared to their everyday life.
What I think is the most effective thing about this photograph is how the street comes to a vanishing point. Also, another effective thing is how it seems as if the sign was purposefully placed there to separate the two sides for each other.
